Things that excite us this week
Free time seems to be a luxury at this point. We did try to look at some sites today and see what is out there that could peak our interest this week. Here is what we found.

The new L.L. Bean signature collection. Back to classic traditions with an updated fit thanks to Alex Carleton. Items on Pre-Sale are already gone on the site. Looks like they have a hit on their hands.
Tim Burton's "Alice In Wonderland". Does this need any explaination????
Loving the Tom Binns jewelry collection inspired by the film.

shock treatment with Sarah Silverman
OMG the new season of Sarah Silverman is so hysterically insane. Much needed shock treatment. Can't wait for the CD release on March 2-something everyone should have in their collection.

Remembering Keith Haring
Tomorrow marks the 20 year anniversary since the death of Keith Haring. It seems like only yesterday. I remember the day I received a huge box of Pop Shop goodies from him as he told me the shirt I had sent him was his lucky painting shirt (a hand silk screened t-shirt I made featuring publicity head shots of the Brady girls). Your work lives on forever.

Will YOU be our Valentine?
Kisses to everyone!
Sure Brandy and Brenda have been together for 26 years but we are always looking for new Valentines (non-sexual of course). Spread some love today. Whether it be your parents, Grandma, best friend, secret crush, school mate , etc. Tell someone you love them today. Love has many meanings. Love can symbolize appreciation. respect. If you say you love a sweater you certainly don't want to have a relationship with it. A heartfelt hug is the best feeling in the world no matter who it is from. Don't be scared to show some emotion.

A personal note to friends
It is with deep sadness that I have to report that Brandy's Mother passed away on Wednesday. She had been battling ovarian cancer for a little over two years. Brandy was with her every step of the way from the day she was diagnosed. It is hard to see what devastation this horrible disease can do to such a beautiful person. Brandy asked that I post a thank you to all who have sent email messages, left postings on Facebook, sent cards and flowers, and phone calls. Your prayers and thoughts are most appreciated at this difficult time. May God bless you all.
Love,

Rest in Peace Susan
As you can see from our lack of attention to our blog and Facebook pages last week we have been dealing with some very intense and emotional family issues. We had to make an emergency trip back to see Brandy's mother who is terminal with ovarian cancer. Looks as if the cancer is winning the race in this battle (but not without a good fight). All we can do is try to make her as comfortable as possible and let her know she is not alone before she goes to hospice. It is probably the hardest thing we have been through. On top of that we found out that Tuesday while we were gone that our good friend Susan Atamanchuk passed away. She had been ill but we did not expect her to leave us so soon. Susan taught us so much about humanity, gratitude, and what really matters in life. When we had our store we enjoyed Susan's company everyday as she lived just a few doors down. She had a great sense of humor and her laugh will live on forever in our memory. We cared for her as if she was our own sister. I wish we could have been here in NYC to say goodbye. She is now at rest peacefully with her parents in heaven.
God bless you Susan. We miss and love you very much.
Always and forever.

I've seen that look before
The barbed wire jewelry look is far from new. It was huge in the 80's and was featured all over Maison Martin Margiela's Fall 2008 collection.

Looks as if Burberry was inspired by the success of that collection with it's barbed wire jewelry collection for Fall 2009.

EQUALITY NOW!
Those of you who can go and support please do so! We unfortunately cannot as we are preparing to head back to the Midwest to see Brandy's mother who is terminally ill with ovarian cancer. We will be marching in spirit. Equal Rights now!!! Stand up and fight for your rights. Be Safe! Crimes against LGBT are on the rise. This is from the National Coalition of Anti-Violence Programs (NCAVP) " The total number of victims reporting anti-LGBT violence to NCAVP in 2008 was 2,424 which represent a 2% increase over the total number of victims reported in 2007 and a 26% increase over a two year period. Known anti-LGBT
murders rose 28% from 2007 to 2008 and are at the highest level since 1999."
visit the NCAVP official website for more information.
This brilliant song released in 1984 by the openly gay group Bronski Beat really represents issues that are still valid today.

Debi Mazar has been dancing for years!
Debi Mazar was disappointingly sent home this week on "Dancing With The Stars". All New York was rooting for her-she's our girl!
But did you know that according to Wiki Debi's first television appearance was dancing on "Graffiti Rock" in 1984? See if you can find her in this clip.
and here she is now..so beautiful!

We love fashion with a sense of humor and a great theme. JCDC spring 2010 looks amazing-there are sooo many looks we want! He is the master of kitsch and whimsey. The models brilliantly walked on faux water through shark fins.

Rachel Zoe, you work too hard!
As I was returning home from my power walk this morning (it's true! stop laughing) I noticed a film crew set up in front of my neighborhood Beauty Bar. This is not uncommon as it is a very popular location for film shoots.
When I inquired what the shoot was for I was told Rachel Zoe and Kate Hudson. At first I thought why isn't Rach in Paris for Fashion Week or maybe she had taken some time off because of the vertigo she was diagnosed with on her program. I had met Rachel a few times before briefly at the Dsquared2 and Marc Jacobs Fashion Week parties but never really conversed with her. Rachel was standing outside so I introduced myself and asked for a photo for our blog at which she snipped "I'm working" "I'm working". Granted I was out of drag, she WAS working, and I am sure she was being pestered constantly while on the street. Respectfully in the time it took for me to say hello I could have already had the shot for all of you to enjoy. One thing I learned early on is that when you are in the public eye you have to be appreciative and make time for those who support your career. Not that we have had much to do with her popularity but we do support her by being loyal viewers of her Bravo program, subscribing to her newsletter, and often giving her free publicity on this blog inciting others to have interest who are not necessarily in the field of fashion and would not otherwise give a rat's ass about her. Lesson learned and respectfully disappointed. FYI We did meet Brad Goreski at the V party during Fashion Week and he was such a sweetheart and a charming gentleman. Does anyone else think Brad looks like actor Justin Theroux?
Think twice good and hard kids before meeting your idol. You may never look at them the same way again.
the beautiful Kate Husdon. Alex Rodriquez is one lucky man!

What's Next for Margiela?
photo: Style.com
I feel sick. The same kind of sick when I heard that Jil Sander was leaving her line. The exact same sick as when Helmut Lang said goodbye to Helmut Lang. And now Margiela? What's next for this reclusive designer? A fantastic coffee table book coming out this month by Rizzoli-is this his final gift to us? Will Jay Z still rap about him after hearing this? I have to admit there were no must have pieces for me from the Spring 2010 collection just shown in Paris but then again it is so hard to tell from photographs and what actually gets produced. Now that it is official can we at least get to see a current pic of you, Martin. Not that it matters. We just want to see if you are as attractive as everyone who has met you says. Good luck with whatever your next adventure is.

Sonia Rykiel put on quite a splendid presentation in Paris for her Spring 2010 collection. We have always been fans of her work and I am delighted to see that she can still add that special spark of excitement in the fashion industry.

They're All Going to Laugh at You!
All Hallows Eve is almost upon us again. We love the Holiday of Halloween but we despise leaving our home on that night. If you live in NYC you know that EVERYONE is out and it is extremely difficult to get transportation. We spent last year at our friend Bianca's party at the Soho Grand Hotel and coming home it took nearly 1 hour in what should have been 10 minutes. We would rather spread our candy out on the floor, turn out the lights, and put some horror classics in the trusty old DVD player. We love 70's and 80's classic horror films and just found out that the AMC Loews Village 7 will be screening a selection of these horror films at the strike of Midnight throughout October and November starting tonight with "The Exorcist". Check out their schedule on Fandango.
Arriving late for Halloween and showing on November 6th and 7th is one of our all time favorites "Carrie". We know..it shows on television every other day but there is something magically about seeing it on the big screen. "Carrie" was a big part of Brenda's adolescence. She remember shaking in line with both horror and anticipation waiting to enter the theatre. Sissy Spacek is still captivating no matter how many times we have watched her transition from wall flower to prom queen to terror of the night. You might just learn something about judging others that are different from you, Missy.
If you are in NYC and have the opportunity to catch it on the big screen I would encourage you to do so.
and don't forget about the new crop of scary movies starting to pop up like "The Stepfather". Penn Badgley looks amazing-I think he is on his way to becoming Hollywood royalty.

Bruno Pieters goes NUDE! Paris Fashion Week Spring 2010
photo: Style.com
Maybe it is the inner slut in me that loves the flesh tone garments strutting down the runway at Bruno Pieters Spring 2010 presentation. It goes BEYOND that. The construction, the cut, very sexy, extreme, and overall a stand out collection as far as I am concerned. What a great start to Paris Spring 2010 Fashion Week. For more info on Bruno visit his website at

Whip It REAL GOOD!
We are so excited for "Whip It"! The new film by Drew Barrymore about female roller derby (and so much more) has the BEST soundtrack, an amazing cast (thank you! thank you! for Juliette Lewis as the bad girl) and is certain to be a great night out. We have been fans of roller derby ever since seeing Raquel Welch in the 1972 film "Kansas City Bomber".
Congrats Drew! you did a great job!
